About us
Congratulations!
Thank you for visiting the first "Ukrainian Bookstore" in Latvia.
My name is Artem. I am a Ukrainian language teacher from Kharkiv. In 2022, my wife and I came to Latvia.
A year later, somewhere in the center of Riga, I heard Ukrainian schoolchildren (I guessed it from the yellow-and-blue ribbons on their backpacks and their pronunciation) speaking Russian. I caught myself thinking that our youth would be able to assimilate into the local Russian-speaking (sub)culture very quickly.
Later, on one of the Latvian government websites, I read that 100 Ukrainians were born in Riga in 2022.
All of this prompted me to think about how I could help preserve Ukrainian culture among those who were forced to leave Ukraine.
It was decided to create the "Ukrainian Bookstore" project in Riga. After all, a real book, despite the modern dependence on gadgets, is able to return us to ourselves. A book was, is and will be a source of knowledge and traditions.
Personally, I always remember with warmth the books my grandmother read to me as a child. I hope that "Ukrainian Bookstore" will create the same joyful memories with its children's books for children who find themselves cut off from their native culture.
For discerning adult readers, we reread a bunch of reviews and book recommendations. So be sure that on the shelves of the "Ukrainian Bookstore" in Riga you will find only the most interesting and popular publications.
Let's read in Ukrainian!
