• The publication presents a selection of mostly little-known journalistic essays by the prominent humanities scholar Yuri Shevelev (1908–2002), whose common theme is the problems of science and culture in their connection with politics.
• Published between 1944 and 1996, these publications contain a holistic vision of Ukraine in the modern world and express the historical, civilizational, psychological, and worldview roots of the difficulties, both external and internal, that Ukrainians must overcome in creating a modern democratic state capable of taking a worthy place in the global intellectual diversity through awareness and nurturing of their own deep essence.
