The Colour of Magic is the first novel in the Discworld series by master of intellectual fantasy Terry Pratchett. Written in the 1980s, the novel parodies the clichés of contemporary fantasy and, with witty innuendo, wordplay, and jokes, lays the foundation for Pratchett's unique style, which would manifest itself in his later works as a sophisticated, sharp satire.
The novel opens one of the cycles of the series - "Rinswind" and is a kind of key-hint to many phenomena of the Discworld. The route of the tourist Twoflower and his guide Rincewind, a failed wizard, draws a kind of map of a diverse vast world, with mythical creatures, amazing plants, mysterious spells and special magic. What color is this magic, is the world really flat, is it possible to change your fate and escape from Death, if you are just a figure in a board game, and the bets have already been made?
