Women who run with the wolves. The Wild Woman Archetype in Myths and Legends
Clarissa Pinkola Estes
The book has been in continuous publication for 25 years, has sold over two million copies worldwide, and spent 144 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.
Annotation:
According to psychologist Clarissa Pinkola Estes, healthy wolves and healthy women share certain psychological characteristics: a keen sense of touch, a playful spirit, and a deep devotion. Wolves and women are related by nature, curious, endowed with endurance and strength. By studying wolves, Dr. Estes first crystallized the concept of the Wild Woman archetype. In the book, which became a global bestseller and a sensation of The New York Times, Estes reveals this archetype, deciphers ancient legends and long-known children's tales, and also explains it with examples from her psychoanalytic practice.
Women Who Run with the Wolves began as notes in 1970, and Estes began writing in 1971. The author completed the book, “a work of love and resurrection for the women of our world,” over twenty years; during that time she was rejected 42 times before it was first published by Ballantine/Random House in 1992. A revised edition was published in 1995, with an appendix and a new wolf tale.
About the Ukrainian edition:
The creation of the Ukrainian edition of the book was joined by the transdisciplinary artist Olena Nevertiy (Para Platform project). The cover features a fragment of a sacred dance dedicated to the awakening of the Spirit and purification by the primary elements: Earth, Fire, Space, Water, Air. Each element has its own dance, which forms harmonious relations with the Planet as a living organism. The women are wearing natural wool garments, woven using ancient technologies, reinterpreted and improved to become a bridge between the heritage of their ancestors and the achievements of modernity, connecting the shores of time together. The best weavers of the Ukrainian Carpathians, united by the idea of popularizing archaic forms of art and manual labor in general, as a powerful act of collective healing, participated in the creation.
Reviews:
Olena Nevertiy first read Clarissa Pinkola Estes' book in 2015: ""She Who Runs with the Wolves"" is a temple of the soul, a chronicle is an awakening. The book symbolizes endless life. Inside it is a big world, so alive and rich, in which everyone can remember themselves, explore their deep nature."
"One of the most important books of my life. If it's short and pathos-filled. If it's detailed and down-to-earth, then take it in your hands and run with the wolves: it's an incredible treasure. You'll open it, and as if by chance you'll come across a current situation in your life. A book of truth, secret and insightful. A book of catharsis: you'll definitely cry, because it's about you and will help you. A book of secrets: hide it from ordinary men (but slip it to extraordinary men). I'm looking forward to the Ukrainian translation. I love Estes."
