The book Biology of Behavior. The Causes of Good and Bad in Us
Robert Sapolsky
Why do people save and kill, forgive and take revenge, love and hate? One will point to emotions, the second to hormones, the third will look for reasons in childhood, and the fourth to the environment. Who is right? Everyone and no one at the same time. Because for a complete picture, arguments from each field are needed.
How to explain the passive aggression of a "cut" driver? Why do children "go crazy" in adolescence and run away from home or get involved in questionable companies? Why do we get sick not only from spoiled food, but also from events? How could one person's expression of rage grow into a 20 million-strong protest - the Arab Spring? Sapolsky explains this and other aspects of human behavior in a variety of ways.
WHO IS THE BOOK FOR? BEHAVIORAL BIOLOGY. THE CAUSES OF GOOD AND BAD IN US
For a wide range of readers, anyone who wants to explore the biology of violence, aggression, and competition—the types of behavior and impulses behind them, the actions of individuals, groups, and states, and learn about what biology can teach us: cooperation, the need for sympathy, reconciliation, empathy, and altruism.
IS THIS BOOK WORTH BUYING?
Sapolsky's book is an attempt to piece together a puzzle of what we know about the brain, genes, cultural influences, evolutionary changes, and even the criminal justice system. The author draws on scientific research, makes excursions into history, and, to keep the reader engaged, injects his unique humor into the narrative. It's hard to imagine a more complete, interesting, and witty book about how we behave.
