Oleksandr Dovzhenko (1894–1956) was a Ukrainian Soviet film director, founder of poetic cinema, and creator of a new literary genre—the film story. Dovzhenko directed 14 feature and documentary films, wrote 15 literary scripts and film stories, two plays, an autobiographical novel, and over 20 short stories.
This edition includes the film stories "Enchanted Desna", "Ukraine in Fire", which became masterpieces of Ukrainian literature, some short stories, as well as an impressive document of the time - "Diary. 1941-1956", which describes the historical events that Dovzhenko witnessed. The author also talks about meetings with his contemporaries, reflects on the past and the future. It was to the pages of the diary that the artist entrusted his most secret creative plans and script development.
