The book The Case of Vasyl Stus. A Collection of Documents from the Archives of the Former KGB of the Ukrainian SSR
Poet and Citizen Vasyl Stus (1938–1985) was unable to attend the presentation of any of his books. Because he was not published in Ukraine — collections of poems were circulated in samizdat form, and were published only abroad. Participation in the movement of those who disagreed with Russification and anti-Ukrainian policies, and an active human rights position led Stus to the dock twice — under the article “Anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda.”
This book collects documents from a six-volume criminal case, which is stored on the shelves of the former KGB archive of the Ukrainian SSR in Kyiv (now the Branch State Archive of the SBU). How and for what was the poet arrested? Who tried to save Vasyl Stus during the trial, and who did everything to ensure that he disappeared forever behind bars in the political zone in the Urals? We have added several publications to the materials from 1980, from which readers will learn about little-known facts of the life, imprisonment and death of one of the most prominent not only Ukrainian, but also European poets of the 20th century.
The book contains archival documents from the case of Vasyl Stus (search and interrogation protocols, letters, articles, etc.), photographs, articles by Vakhtang Kipiani, as well as famous dissidents - Vasyl Ovsienko, Leonid Borodin. Added are the last notes of Stus during his lifetime - "From the Camp Notebook", secretly transferred from the camp to freedom. Foreword by Vakhtang Kipiani.
