The book Gray Bees by Andrey Kurkov
…In the village of Mala Starohradivka, which is located in the so-called gray zone, only two people are left to live - a forty-nine-year-old pensioner Serhiy Serhiyovych and his former classmate Pashka. And they, having completely opposite views on life, are forced to put up with it, although Ukrainian military personnel visit one of them, and separatists visit the other. Serhiyovych's main concern is how and where to take his bees - all six hives - away from the war when spring comes. Take them to a place where they don't shoot, so that later the honey won't have the taste of war. Having set off on a journey, the beekeeper himself does not yet imagine what trials await him and his bees. After a not entirely successful stop near Zaporizhzhia, he decides to go with his bees to Crimea, to a Tatar whom he met more than twenty years ago at a beekeepers' congress. He can't even imagine that the summer spent in Crimea will teach him to distrust not only people, but also his own bees.
