The train arrives on schedule. Stories of people and the railway
Maricka Paplauskaite
This story begins with the schedule at the central railway station of the capital, where the names of cities to which trains do not yet go glow yellow on the electronic board: Kerch, Melitopol, Donetsk, Mariupol, Luhansk, Sevastopol, Yevpatoria. But they are remembered and are being reconquered. The railway is the first after the army to enter the deoccupied territories, repairing the tracks along the way. It is responsible for the safe transportation of the first persons of allied countries and world stars to our capital. It saves, provides shelter, provides for the army and the defense industry. It gives hope and unites.
Ukrainian journalist Maricka Paplauskaite traveled over 8,000 kilometers and conducted 40 interviews to understand how the railway managed to become a symbol of resistance. Why, even in the midst of a full-scale war, is there only one train running between Kyiv and Warsaw? How did the railway become the main tool of the volunteer movement and how, along the way, it built the world's first medical resuscitation trains to evacuate the wounded? Who organized Joe Biden's visit to Kyiv? And is it true that Ukrainian railways still have ties to Russia?
"The Train Arrives on Schedule" are real stories of people who do the impossible every day to keep the country's main artery running smoothly.
